- Amirapu, Amrit
Amrit Amirapu is a Ph.D. candidate in Economics at Boston University. He received his BA in Physics and Political Philosophy from Amherst College, and his MA in Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences from Columbia University. His present research focuses on the effects of institutions and industrial policies on the development of the manufacturing sector in India.
- Bracco, Stefania
Stefania Bracco is a Ph.D. candidate in Economics at the University of Siena, Italy. She received Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Development Economics at the University of Firenze, and is a visiting student at the University of Reading, UK. Her research interests are Sustainable Development Economics, International Economics, Food Security and Migration. Her thesis work is on Food, Fuel and Biofuels, analyzing biofuels’ economic, environmental and social consequences.
- Campbell, Morgan
Morgan Campbell is currently pursuing a Ph.D. from Rutgers University, She received her BA in English from Kalamazoo College in 2003, Masters of Critical Theory and Cultural Studies from the University of Nottingham in 2006, and a Masters of Urban Planning at Hunter College in 2011. Morgan’s particular interests are critical urban planning, landscapes of cultural heritage, gender, mobility and access, participatory planning, and India. - Carrick-Hagenbarth, Jessica
Jessica Carrick-Hagenbarth is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst where she has also received a master’s degree in economics. She received her BA from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. Jessica’s fields of interest are development economics, and ethics and economics. Her dissertation focuses on participatory development in Northeastern Brazil.

Olivia D’Aoust holds Master degrees in Economics and in Demography from the Université catholique de Louvain, Belgium. She is a FNRS Research Fellow and PhD student at the European Centre for Advanced Research in Economics and Statistics (ECARES), Université libre de Bruxelles, Belgium, where she works on the economics of post-war reconstruction programmes in Burundi. Claire Debucquois is a Ph.D. candidate at Columbia Law School and a fellow at the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research, and has been a visiting scholar at Columbia University and Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne. Andrea Feigl is a doctoral candidate at the Harvard School of Public Health, Department of Global Health and Population. She is a Harvard Graduate Leadership Initiative Fellow, and completed her MPH and BA at Simon Fraser University in Canada. Andrea’s research focuses on universal healthcare implementation and cost-effectiveness of chronic disease interventions in developing countries. - Gehrke, Esther
Esther Gehrke holds a MA in Latin American Area Studies with focus on Economics from the University of Cologne. She is a research fellow at DIE in Bonn, where she focused mainly on questions relating to the provision of social protection in developing economies. In her doctoral thesis she analyses to what extend public works schemes in India help households to cope with shocks. More specifically, she addresses the link between risk exposure and investment behavior, assuming that the provision of public works reduces the necessity to hold precautionary savings and enhances the disposition of households to undertake profitable but potentially risky investments. In her thesis, she will combine quantitative and qualitative research methods by analyzing panel micro-data from rural Andhra Pradesh and cross-checking her results in focus group discussions and expert interviews. - Hochard, Jacob
Jacob Hochard is currently a Ph.D. candidate in economics at the University of Wyoming. From 2007-2011, he studied at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania where he earned degrees in environment studies and economics. He was also co-captain of the Gettysburg College bullets track & field team and an experiential education facilitator for the Gettysburg Recreation Adventure Board (GRAB). He is passionate about most outdoor activities, all New England sports teams and recently photography. He will be entering the 2015 academic job market where he anxiously await a research-oriented career that will also allow him to pursue his passion of teaching economics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. His dissertation studies caste mobility and its interaction with the institutional environment created by the state using Census records, as well as primary data collected in Bihar, India.

Sonia holds master degrees in Development Economics (University Paris I – Sorbonne) and in Public International Law (University Paris II – Assas). She is also graduated from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris. She is now a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Development Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London). She studies the political economy of secondary education expansion in Tanzania. Her research interests cover the political economy of education, education financing, education and the labour market, the textbook industry, private education provision and aid management. Sonia has also an extensive professional experience as a development practitioner. She worked as a programme manager for the European Union in Romania, Mali and Tanzania. She also worked for DANIDA as a senior education adviser in the Ministry of Basic Education in Benin (Department of Financial Resources). Her professional expertise includes education planning and financing, public finance management and decentralisation. Salewa ‘Yinka Olawoye is an Economics doctoral student at te University of Missouri – Kansas City. - Raghunathan, Kalyani
Kalyani Raghunathan is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Cornell University, working under the supervision of Prof. Gary Fields. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Delhi in 2008 and her Master’s from the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi, in 2010. Her primary fields of interest are labor and development, and the two broad strands of her research are labor market models and topics in demography. Part of her research also uses the Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics (LEHD) Infrastructure Files to study firm-level displacement events and the labor-market consequences for workers who are laid off.

- Mitra-Thakur, Gogol
Gogol Mitra-Thakur is a Ph.D. candidate at the Center for Economic Studies & Planning (CESP), Jawaharlal Nehru University. He holds M.A. and M. Phil degrees in Economics from CESP, Jawaharlal Nehru University. His PhD focuses on the relationships between composition of aggregate demand, economic growth and structutral change in the light of service-led growth trajectory of the Indian economy. His research interests include macroeconomic theory, particularly Post-Keynesian and neo-Kaleckian schools, and structural change in developing economies.
- Thompson, Spencer
Spencer is a Ph.D. candidate at the Centre of Development Studies, University of Cambridge. His PhD research examines theories of the firm from a behavioural perspective with reference to cooperatives, especially in Spain. His research interests also include institutional economics, economic sociology, and the political economy of development. He holds an MPhil in Development Studies from Cambridge and a BA (HONS) in Economics and Politics from the University of York, and has experience in social investment and University-level teaching and supervising.

- Mukherjee, Avanti
Avanti Mukherjee is a PhD candidate at the Economics Department, University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her dissertation investigates why the gender division of labour is unequal in rural Indian households. Her research and teaching fields include Development, Political Economy, Feminist Economics, Labor Economics and Microeconomics. In 2011, Avanti won the Sanjay Thakur Best paper award for Young Economists at the Indian Society of Labour Economists’ annual conference.

Martin Guzman is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Columbia University GSB, and an Assistant Professor at Universidad Nacional de La Plata (Argentina). - Quinn, Natalie
Natalie Naïri Quinn is a Career Development Fellow in Economics at the Department of Economics and St John’s College, University of Oxford. She holds a DPhil and MPhil in Economics from Oxford and a BA in Natural Sciences (Physics) from Cambridge. Her doctoral research investigated the ethical judgements that are inherent in the way economists transform and aggregate data about individuals to evaluate aspects of social welfare, in particular poverty, and conversely how we may construct poverty measures that embody a particular set of ethical principles. She continues to work in this area and has also begun some more applied research on public service delivery in low-income countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.
