Poverty concerns are intertwined with virtually every aspect of development, but IPD’s Poverty Task Force focuses on specific areas of economic policy: the impact of trade liberalization on the poor; the effect of commodity price volatility on the rural poor who produce export crops; the sequencing of reforms and the areas in which sequencing errors are likely to have a serious poverty impact; and the effect of different institutional frameworks on poverty. In addition to economic policy, the Task Force also explores the impact of education and empowerment of the poor on poverty rates.

This meeting in 2003 addressed the uncertainty in estimates in global poverty and addressed three broad questions: how should a poverty line be set? How are comparisons made over time and accross countries? And how should we measure poverty empirically?
